Overview

Mortal Shell (the original 2020 game, not the 2025 Mortal Shell II) has a Vert- style gameplay camera on ultrawide per PCGamingWiki, meaning the field of view is cropped vertically rather than extended, though a native 'Aspect Ratio Constraint for Cutscenes' toggle removes cutscene pillarboxing and built-in FOV axis-maintain sliders (visible only above 16:9) partially offset the crop. There is no third-party fix — Nexus Mods' ultrawide fixes found during research are specifically for Mortal Shell II, a separate game, which is a same-title trap to avoid. Because the Vert- issue has no real fix, this is rated partial rather than good.

Fixes

No known fix yet.

The game's own settings menu includes native 'Maintain Major/X/Y-Axis' FOV options only visible on ultrawide, so the built-in in-game workaround is the best available fix and no external mod exists for the original Mortal Shell.

Patch history & verification

currentSep 21, 2026
Verified via PCGamingWiki Video section wikitext showing multimonitor=limited (Vert- gameplay/menus) with fov=limited (native axis-maintain sliders as workaround). Confirmed via web search that available Nexus Mods ultrawide fixes target Mortal Shell II (2025), a different game, not this one -- avoided a same-title mix-up. Could not confirm any working community fix for the original game's Vert- issue, so recommended_fix is null per the consistency rule.
