Resolution
The baseline check: does the game even render a full 21:9 or 32:9 frame, or does it just crop / stretch a 16:9 image to fit?
HUD
On a 5120×1440 panel, HUD elements anchored to the screen edges can sit far from your natural eye line. We note whether HUD position is centered, edge-locked, or fixable.
FOV
Correct ultrawide support widens the field of view to match (Hor+). Some games instead crop the top and bottom (Vert-), which narrows what you can actually see.
Cutscenes
Gameplay and cinematics are often handled separately. Plenty of "ultrawide supported" games still pillarbox every cutscene back to 16:9.
Menus
Menus can stretch UI elements across the full width instead of reflowing them — a common and easy-to-miss compatibility gap.
Black bars
Some games never remove letterboxing at all, even in gameplay. We record exactly when black bars appear — always, cutscenes only, or never.
Mods & fixes
When native support falls short, tools like Flawless Widescreen or community config edits can close the gap. We link to what actually works, and whether it's safe to use online.
