Overview

Free-roam gameplay is genuinely Hor+ at 32:9 with no bars. Where this one surprised us: per PCGamingWiki, cutscenes, the cinematic camera, the pause menu, shop menus, and Photo Mode all stay windowboxed/pillarboxed regardless of resolution — this isn't a niche edge case, it's most of the non-gameplay screen time. A script mod removes the bars from all of those. It's a single-player script mod, so treat it as story-mode only rather than something to run in Red Dead Online.

Working with fix
Free roam is great natively, but I run the No Letterbox mod for cutscenes — otherwise it's pillarboxed constantly.

Working
Gameplay is flawless. Didn't realize the cutscenes were still 16:9 until I checked closely.
