Overview
REANIMAL launched in February 2026 without ultrawide support, but the official Steam Patch 1.7 (per PCGamingWiki and Steam news) added native ultrawide alongside HDR and Steam Deck compatibility. The developers' own Patch 1.7 announcement states the 'Unlock Aspect Ratio' toggle enables ultra-wide rendering game-wide, explicitly noting only the main menu is excluded ('the main menu will not be rendered in UW') and warning that 'a couple of scenes/places' may look slightly off in UW -- direct evidence that cinematic/cutscene rendering is included in ultrawide, not pillarboxed, though Tarsier's own caveat about occasional scene quirks is worth flagging to players.

Patch history & verification
Post-DLC 'Bugfix Patch & HDR Update' (dated ~August 24, 2026 on Steam News, addressing The Prisoner DLC crashes and HDR issues); this build postdates Patch 1.7.1 but Tarsier has not published a numbered version string for it.Sep 20, 2026
Second-pass re-check: Re-verified via PCGamingWiki's raw wikitext, which quotes the developer's own Patch 1.7 Steam announcement in full: the 'Unlock Aspect Ratio' toggle renders the game in ultrawide except the main menu, with only isolated scenes possibly looking imperfect. This is direct developer evidence that cutscenes are rendered in ultrawide (not pillarboxed), so cutscene_support was changed from 16-9-pillarboxed to ultrawide; menu_support (16-9) is directly confirmed unchanged by the same quote. Also found a real post-Patch-1.7.1 'Bugfix Patch & HDR Update' (~Aug 24, 2026) via Steam News and updated last_verified_patch to reference it, though Tarsier has not issued a numbered version label for it.
Patch 1.7 (2026-04-16) and 1.7.1 (2026-05-14)Sep 22, 2026
Confirmed via PCGamingWiki infobox and official Steam news post that Patch 1.7 added native ultrawide support, replacing the earlier need for a community mod. Could not independently confirm whether cutscenes are ultrawide post-patch, so cutscene_support is kept conservative (pillarboxed).
