Overview
Without a fix, the game renders at 16:9 inside a wider screen (PCGW calls it anamorphic 16:9 with letterboxing), so you get black bars. Flawless Widescreen (dedicated plugin) or the SUWSF ultrawide mod fixes this. PCGW notes the crosshair can be slightly off with FWS.

Current Steam build (specific build number not confirmed)Sep 23, 2026
FWS module 'Assassins Creed IV: BlackFlag' confirmed in the repo. PCGW marks ultrawide 'hackable' and WSGF rates it 'limited'. The exact look of the black bars without a fix and how cutscenes/menus behave with fixes are lower-confidence and set conservatively. Steam API gave no release date; 2013-11-19 is the PC launch date.
