Overview

MGR:R has no native ultrawide or even simple custom-resolution support (only fixed options up to 1920x1080). Ultrawide requires first patching the executable with MGROverride to accept a custom resolution, then using Flawless Widescreen's dedicated MetalGearRising module (confirmed present in the live FWS repo) with "Don't Stretch HUD" enabled. Even then PCGamingWiki documents known side effects (HUD/QTE glitches), so this is rated partial rather than good; cutscenes and menus were not confirmed to extend beyond 16:9.

Already have one of these? It works too
MGROverrideRequired first to patch the EXE for a custom resolution (game only exposes 800x600 up to 1920x1080 natively); combining it with Flawless Widescreen is a multi-step, somewhat fragile process that PCGamingWiki notes can break the HUD or make left-stick QTEs unusable.

Patch history & verification

current Steam buildSep 22, 2026
Confirmed the Flawless Widescreen "MetalGearRising" module is live in the public FWS repo XML and cross-checked the MGROverride+FWS combo workflow and its documented glitches on PCGamingWiki plus a NeoGAF thread. Could not independently test the fix myself, so FOV/cutscene behavior after applying it is a conservative estimate based on PCGW's phrasing, not direct verification.
