Overview

The general UI, world map and menus fill an ultrawide (21:9) screen, but the actual battle screens are rendered pillarboxed at a fixed 16:9 with black bars on the sides — this is a deliberate design limitation of the 2D battle system, not a bug, and it is not fixed by any known mod. 32:9 super-ultrawide will show even larger black bars during battles. Some menus also revert to 16:9 per PCGamingWiki's notes.

Fixes

No known fix yet.

Battle screens are hard-locked to 16:9 by design (pillarboxed), and no working mod or config edit to remove those black bars during combat was found.

Patch history & verification

currentSep 22, 2026
Verified via PCGamingWiki Video infobox (ultrawidescreen=true but multimonitor notes flag 'Pillarboxed 21:9, with 16:9 in some menus') and cross-checked against a Steam Community discussion thread confirming battles render pillarboxed at 16:9 while the rest of the game supports 21:9. Could not find a Flawless Widescreen module or GitHub fix for the battle-screen pillarboxing, so it is recorded as unsupported/no fix rather than assumed fixable.
